Welcome to Oakvale Green Community Gardens – a one-acre urban oasis situated at the end of Oakvale Avenue, just north of the Greenwood TTC subway yard. The gardens are a short walk from Donlands and Greenwood subway stations.
Originally started by a few neighbours to enrich and reshape an old empty field, our volunteer group has grown into a diverse membership. We are an organic garden with a strong interest in the cultivation of native plant species, including in our orchard.
Oakvale Green is an unincorporated, not-for-profit, volunteer-based organization that arose out of a partnership between the TTC and the Oakvale Avenue Residents Association.
There are currently 40 personal garden plots for growing food, three perennial flower beds among the garden plots, and four perennial beds in the park for benefit of the larger community. Oakvale Gardens has around 30 members.
The gardens are open to the public and are wheelchair accessible (although the ground around garden plots is grass).
